Occasionally we all need to be reminded of the beauty of ordinary scenes from ordinary life, and this book does it well. Marla Frazee was nominated for a Caldecott Medal for her illustrations in this picture book, and it is easy to see why. Her beautiful sketches of panoramic views make simple scenes seem much larger. Children play on the beach, looking for shells. Children at a river get caught in the rain. People visiting a farmer's market discover the redness of a tomato. A family eats at a home-style restaurant. Extended family gathers for a reunion. And in the end, the author calls for "peace and hope and love and trust" and reminds us that "all the world is you and me."
